Exfoliation involves the removal of dead skin cells and buildup from the outermost layer of your skin—the epidermis. You can choose either a chemical or physical exfoliation method to eliminate old skin cells. This practice helps prevent clogged pores, reduces oil buildup, and reveals the fresher, healthier skin lying underneath.
Exfoliation supports your skin's natural cell turnover process, which starts in the deepest layer of the epidermis where new skin cells are formed. These newly generated cells then ascend through the outer layers of the epidermis until they ultimately reach the surface of your skin.
Skin cell turnover is a natural and vital process for maintaining healthy skin, but unfortunately, it tends to slow down significantly with age. In general, this rejuvenation process typically occurs in healthy, young skin approximately every 27 to 28 days. However, as we age, this cycle begins to take a considerable amount of time, often extending anywhere from 40 to 60 days or even longer. As a result, those dry, flaky skin cells are not being shed and replaced as swiftly as they once were. This slowdown can lead to a variety of skin concerns, including a lackluster appearance, uneven skin tone, and an increased likelihood of breakouts due to clogged pores. Consequently, maintaining healthy skin becomes more challenging, requiring additional care and attention to support the skin's natural renewal process.
There are two types of Exfoliation used to reduce dead skin cells- Physical exfoliation and Chemical exfoliation
Physical exfoliating products consist of tiny particles, such as coffee grounds, jojoba beads, or sugar granules. These products necessitate manual application, allowing the particles to effectively slough off dead skin. Other instances of physical exfoliation include microdermabrasion treatments, as well as textured face mitts or washcloths that help eliminate dead skin and impurities. Additionally, dermaplaning involves the use of a fine surgical blade to remove dead skin cells along with vellus hairs.
MaxAesthetics Triple Exfoliation Facial combines two types of Physical Exfoliation and a gentle fruit enzyme exfoliation.
The benefit of the Triple Exfoliation Facial are the following:
Reduces the likelihood of acne-causing bacteria thriving in the pores and sparking breakouts.
2. Diminishes the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles
While exfoliation cannot completely eradicate fine lines and wrinkles, it can significantly reduce their visibility. By exfoliating and sloughing off the top layer of dead skin, your skin takes on a smoother appearance, making fine lines less noticeable.
3. Promotes a brighter, more uniform skin tone
When your complexion is overdue for exfoliation, it often looks thick and dull due to an accumulation of dead skin cells. By removing these old cells, your skin can appear instantly brighter and revitalized. Over time, this process contributes to a more even skin tone and may lessen the appearance of hyperpigmentation.
4. Enhances the absorption of skincare products
Concluding our list is a lesser-known advantage of exfoliation. Did you know that it can actually enhance the efficacy of the active ingredients in your other skincare products?
